Mount Kilimanjaro can be climbed throughout the year, but the best conditions are during the dry seasons.
The most recommended months are:
January to March – Clear skies, fewer climbers, and cooler temperatures
June to October – Stable weather, excellent visibility, and peak trekking season
The rainy seasons (April–May and November) offer greener landscapes and fewer crowds, but trails may be wetter and more challenging.
Weather on Mount Kilimanjaro varies significantly with altitude. Climbers pass through several climate zones, from warm tropical forests at the base to freezing alpine conditions near the summit.
Daytime temperatures are generally mild at lower elevations, while nighttime temperatures near the summit can drop well below freezing. Proper layering and preparation are essential, and our guides ensure you are well briefed and equipped for all weather conditions.

Transfer to your lodge for a relaxed evening and preparation briefing
Depart Moshi at 8:00 AM for Umbwe Gate, where you will meet your Safari Touch Tanzania crew, including guides, porters, and cooks. After registration, begin your climb through mossy cloud forest, gradually emerging into heathers, tall grasses, and wildflowers. The trail is steep in places but rewarding, and your crew will have camp ready for your arrival.
Continue along the ridge trail through open moorland, surrounded by giant senecios and lobelias. Barranco Camp is considered one of the most scenic camps on Umbwe. Enjoy panoramic views while preparing for the challenging days ahead.
Extra day for acclimatization. Use this time to rest or explore the nearby area. This additional day improves your body’s adaptation to altitude, helping to increase your summit success rate.
After breakfast, we continue our ascent toward Barafu Camp. The terrain becomes more rugged and barren as vegetation disappears, signaling entry into the alpine desert zone.
Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, you’ll spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and preparing for summit night. An early dinner is served before you retire for a short sleep ahead of the midnight summit attempt.
Begin the final ascent at midnight. Trek steeply up scree slopes to Stella Point and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating the summit, descend to Barafu for a short rest before continuing down through alpine desert and forest to Mweka Camp.
Complete the trek with a gentle descent through forest to Mweka Gate. Celebrate your achievement and transfer back to Moshi with Safari Touch Tanzania for a well-earned hot shower and relaxation.
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight home, taking
memories of your Kilimanjaro adventure with you.
